Expanding the Heart’s Horizons: Appreciation as a Key Practice to Awaken our Hearts

with Miyu Tamamura & Tracy Lease

Sunday, November 24, 1-4 PM

Mountain Stream Meditation Center

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Melody Beattie

As a conscious preparation for Thanksgiving and the holidays, the focus of our retreat is to awaken our hearts through the practice of appreciation. As we practice noticing all the gifts of our lives, we will invite our heart-mind to linger in appreciation and joy. Through practice, we can cultivate our abilities to notice the good, the beauty, the kindness all around us. We can then practice gratitude and appreciation for our opportunities, life lessons and joys.

Our practices will be woven together with a nourishing blend of qigong, restorative yoga, breath work, heart-opening poems, meditation and the soothing and expansive sounds of crystal singing bowls. We will practice held by our half-day circle and the beautiful Mountain Stream Meditation Center.

All levels welcome!

Peace in every step. The shining red sun is my heart.
Each flower smiles with me.
How green, how fresh all that grows.
How cool the wind blows. Peace is every step.
It turns the endless path to Joy.

Thich Nhat Hanh

Imagine opening your eyes to greet your day in the beloved cultural mecca and ancient capital of Kyoto, Japan. This beautiful city has been the home of Buddhism for more than 1200 years.

We’ll begin our days with gentle yoga stretching, fluid Qigong and guided meditation in a tranquil Zen temple uniting our group energy to prepare us for a day full of exploration.  Japanese temples have been a community gathering place that supports the spiritual and cultural life of the Japanese. They are home to an aesthetic and spirit that reflects lived experiences of the ancestors and their religious beliefs. These temples, precious repositories of nearly 1200 years of history, still stand open today to welcome any and all.

After our 7 day immersion in Miyoshin-ji “The Temple of Enlightened Mind” we will journey to Kinosaki Hot Springs for a 2 night stay in a traditional, luxurious Ryokan (Japanese Inn) to relax in the natural mineral waters.

Our retreat is custom designed to inspire and nurture you through beauty, gardens, temples, freshly prepared delicious meals, and authentic experiences that touch deeply into our inner landscapes.

This immersion retreat to Japan is a pilgrimage to the center of our hearts with the purpose of revitalizing our lives and invigorating our souls. Bring an open and curious heart and allow Japan to flow in and expand your horizons!

Location & Activities

Congénies is a charming and quaint French village in the south of France rich in history, colors, scents, and culinary specialties. In the spring this area of France is full of blooming flowers.

There are hiking trails out the gate and towns with beautiful architecture, Roman ruins and street cafes within easy distance. You could also borrow or rent a bike for an afternoon or two and ride through the countryside of southern France.

Our hosts, my Zoom students Amy & Chamba Cooke, are full of ideas and willing to take groups on excursions for a small fee.

Meals

Meals are provided- and those needing vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and allergen-free options will be accommodated. Local produce, usually organic, is used. Amazing French bread, cheeses, and local wines will be served each day. Amy & Chamba, past owners of Summer Thyme Bakery in Grass Valley, will also be in charge of the food.

Room & Travel Considerations

The room you choose impacts your price. You may choose a private room with private bath, a shared room, or a private room with a shared bath. Rooms in the Maison Quaker are simple and are available on a first-come-first served basis. There are also rooms available across the street.

Participants may fly into Paris or Barcelona and take a speed train to Nimes, France or fly into Montpellier. If interested, we will give you much more information.

You are also welcome to book a room with meals before and after the retreat to continue exploring this region of France. Just let hosts know as soon as you can to reserve your space.

This retreat could also become one step in your larger spring European adventure!

I am very excited about this retreat. Four hours of shared practice a day with plenty of time to journal, practice on your own outside, or explore.

A two hour yoga pranayama and asana practice will start the day. I will be able to help students modify the practices individually. After breakfast people will have free-time until the late afternoon stretch, breathe & restore session. I will be available after classes to answer individual or group questions about yoga in your unique bodies.

The practice of yoga invites us to be fully present in the experiences of our lives. Enjoying our practices, exercise, good food, company, rest, history, culture and quiet reflective time are all a part of our practice of living life fully. I hope you can join us!
